BaxEnergy Wind Power Projects ImWind

ImWind unleashes the full data potential

ImWind windfarms

The Austrian company uses Energy Studio Pro® to make accurate and timely decisions

With Energy Studio Pro ImWind unleashes the full data potentialThe ImWind Technik GmbH, as part of the ImWind Group which was founded in 1995, is an engineering company that successfully develops and operates renewable energy power plants in several different countries, with the main focus on operations of wind farms in Austria. Starting with 60 wind turbines with a total installed power of 152 Megawatts at the beginning, the ImWind Technik GmbH is now using BaxEnergy’s Energy Studio Pro® to monitor, analyze and optimize 95 generation units of different manufacturers in 14 assets with a total installed power of 242 Megawatts, including a photovoltaic power plant.

The challenge

With the increasing number of wind turbines and different manufacturers, ImWind faced several problems that demanded a powerful power plant management solution with customization options, in order to operate the assets more efficient and less time-consuming.
As soon as you start to operate wind farms of more than one supplier, they become hard to manage says Richard Distl, Managing Director and Head of technical operations at ImWind Technik GmbH, who highlights that keeping the data quality high is the biggest challenge. That’s where Energy Studio Pro® came in.

The decision

Of course, it was important for ImWind not to choose just any power plant management software, but a solution that is tailored to their individual needs, without limiting access to the system and scalability at the same time. We carried out a market analysis and it came out that Energy Studio Pro® was the best solution remembers Richard Distl and adds:

A significant factor for us was to get an open solution that allows us to access the data-base directly, if needed, because I do not like pigs in a poke.

The solution

Energy Studio Pro® is set up in ImWind’s monitoring room in Vienna and assists them in various ways. With the help of workflows, they generate personalized reports automatically and the innovative alarm viewer with custom alerts notifies them as soon as their power plants are underperforming, even if the manufacturer SCADA tells them that they are performing well. On top, Energy Studio Pro® allows them to easily evaluate and compare production, availability & efficiency KPI.

The result

Since they introduced Energy Studio Pro®, ImWind has been much more responsive to power plant issues.
The solution saves us valuable time and money and is now a big part of our daily business. Without Energy Studio Pro®, I would need ten more employees to keep the quality at the same level says Richard Distl, who emphasizes that the people at BaxEnergy know their business very well:
Programmers, database experts and product developers – they are all on a high level.
After five years, ImWind looks back on a successful partnership with BaxEnergy and towards a bright future.

BaxEnergy Project SL NaturEnergie

SL NaturEnergie eliminates downtimes

BaxEnergy and SL NaturEnergie

In Gladbeck, Energy Studio Pro® helps to bring the German Energiewende forward

BaxEnergy Customer SL NaturEnergieSince 1996, SL NaturEnergie GmbH has projected wind and photovoltaic power plants with the goal to play an important role in making North Rhine-Westphalia a flagship location for renewable energy production. Today, SL NaturEnergie GmbH is not only operating 83 of its assets with Energy Studio Pro®, but is also offering a broad range of services: from projecting and financing to operating and landscaping. A closer look at the company reveals its corporate citizenship: the SL NaturEnergie foundation wants everyone to profit from renewable energy development. Even those that are not able to invest in it.

The challenge

For SL NaturEnergie GmbH, the turbine manufacturer systems only offered limited options to analyze and compare the wind turbines’ performance or site quality.

In addition, we needed a reliable solution that allows us to remotely control our wind turbines commissioned before 2009 says Dieter Braams, operator at SL NaturEnergie GmbH and adds: With the new solution, we wanted to top the availability guaranteed by the manufacturer.
But that was not the end – SL NaturEnergie GmbH expressed the desire to automate several processes to check wind turbine performance.

The decision

The company from Gladback, Germany attaches great importance to local partners and with BaxEnergy it saw the biggest potential to benefit from a power plant management system that is tailored to its demands.

Two candles lit with one flame notes Dieter Braams.

The solution

For SL NaturEnergie GmbH, Energy Studio Pro® was extended with a remote control function and custom workflows. An email or sms is now sent to certain operators automatically when yaw misalignment, power deviation or over temperature occurs.

In this way, we discover signs of an error early enough, so that we can maintain our assets before a problem arises explains Dieter Braams, who emphasizes the fast and good support from BaxEnergy. Every morning, the team of SL NaturEnergie checks the wind farms’ behaviour via mobile phone. If they discover an anomaly, they go directly to the affected turbine on their way to work, so that they do not lose valuable time.

The result

With Energy Studio Pro®, SL NaturEnergie GmhH has a complete overview of its assets, so that it is aware about the wind turbines’ conditions at any point in time, anywhere.

With the help of Energy Studio Pro®, our assets regularly reach an average availability of more than 99% remarks Klaus Schulze Langenhorst, Chief Executive officer and founder of SL NaturEnergie GmbH, who is proud to actively contribute to the German Energiewende. Until end of 2017, SL NaturEnergie GmbH wants to realize and integrate into Energy Studio Pro® another 41 wind turbines, with 118,7 Megawatts total.

BaxEnergy Wind Monitored Power Global Tech I

Global Tech One relies on trusted data

BaxEnergy and GlobalTech I

The largest North Sea offshore wind farm runs its assets with an integrated platform under Energy Studio Pro®

BaxEnergy Customer GlobalTech I Situated 140 kilometers from Emden in the middle of the North Sea, Global Tech I is one of the largest German offshore wind farms and most distant from the coastline in the whole Europe. With its 80 wind turbines in waters of 40 meters depth, the company operates an installed capacity of 400 MW, supplying renewable energy for 445,000 households. Since 2015 Global Tech I is monitoring the wind farm with Energy Studio Pro®, ensuring a smoothly performance of the assets. At full operational power, the North Sea wind farm is able to generate about 1.4 billion kilowatt-hours of clean electricity each year.

The challenge

It is really challenging to efficiently operate a power plant without an independent and direct access to the data. This was the biggest challenge for Global Tech I: Gathering trusted data via individual SCADA Systems is a complex and time consuming process. Our operators spent considerable part of their working day into carrying out data manually explains Alexander Löhndorf, Project Manager at Global Tech I Offshore Wind GmbH. Since Global Tech I had to deal with several OEMs for wind turbines, measurement and substation equipment, often simple fault conditions remained undetected and the alarm codes were not timely received or misleading in terms of the true reason of the fault.

The decision

Due to the number of different systems involved in daily activities, we needed a Top Level SCADA System, providing a central overview of the entire operations to improve availability and productivity while optimizing maintenance processes and preventing any damages says Alexander Löhndorf who remarks: We were looking for an integrated platform that would free our technicians from learning multiple OEMs systems’ procedures and so truly focusing on doing their job.
Furthermore, Alexander Löhndorf moves on by adding: With Energy Studio Pro®, BaxEnergy was able to provide a solution to our specific requirements, thanks to its extensive domain knowledge and experience in building IT solutions for wind monitoring and control.

 The solution

Global Tech I is using Energy Studio Pro® to unify under a single comprehensive system all the data originating from different subsystems. From a unique interface, the company’s operators can easily perform advanced analysis by combining real-time and historical data flow as well as accurately monitoring the status of all devices, from wind turbines to meteorological stations, radar data and so on. As remarks Alexander Löhndorf, For us, the main value of Energy Studio Pro® relies on the openness of the system and the capability to define our own KPIs, alarms and reports in order to promptly intervene if the power plants are not performing well.

The result

Energy Studio Pro® helps Global Tech I reaching a higher level of precision – at all stage of action – that is unmatchable using different SCADA systems.

BaxEnergy provides us an integrated solution which allow us to reduce reaction time and technicians’ on-site interventions as well as increasing safety
points out Alexander Löhndorf who highlights the plan of the company to implement further modules via Energy Studio Pro® in the very near future.

BaxEnergy and ROMO Wind

BaxEnergy join forces with ROMO Wind to provide exclusive combined services for wind farm operators

Bad Nenndorf/Germany and Zug/Switzerland, June 2016: BaxEnergy, a leading provider dedicated to deliver innovative turnkey solutions to renewable energy players for complete visualization, data analysis and optimization of their power plants, and ROMO Wind, provider of the patented iSpin spinner anemometer technology, are now offering their combined services to wind operators supporting them to achieve full wind turbine performance.

BaxEnergy and ROMO Wind

BaxEnergy’s innovative solution Energy Studio Pro® enables utilities, independent power producers and O&M service providers to run their power plants more efficiently, minimizes their energy losses due to downtime and slow responses to outages, and increases the overall yields maximizing the return on investment.

Thanks to a revolutionary approach to wind measurement, the bundled BaxEnergy/ROMO Wind services allow customers to benefit from the exact wind data delivered by ROMO Wind’s measurement technology iSpin, achieving full wind turbine performance.

The problem with wind data collection is that conventional anemometers, mounted on the wind turbine nacelle behind the rotor, provide not much accurate wind measurement data because of the distortion created by the rotor and nacelle.

ROMO Wind’s iSpin system uses proven ultrasonic technology to measure the wind where it first hits the turbine – directly at the spinner. In this way, iSpin is able to measure parameters which previously had been extremely difficult or impossible to measure accurately. The iSpin wind measurements are not affected by terrain, wake effects or turbulence caused by the rotor.

The ESP®-iSpin package gives wind farm operators access to a variety of new ESP® functions, such as tracking power curve changes, monitoring yaw misalignment as well as improved performance monitoring and analytics possibilities.

The new insights that operators gain with the combination of ESP® and iSpin lead to:

  • Improved performance and monitoring through a whole new level of transparency of turbine data
  • Enhanced wind farm management for a longer life of wind turbines
  • Optimised preventative maintenance
  • Better understanding of service and repair measures.

Energy Studio Pro® reliable measurements show that iSpin enables significant production increase to customers’ wind farm, providing up to 2% production increase through wind turbines that benefit from a permanent, correct alignment to the wind.

Dr. Simone Massaro, CEO of BaxEnergy, says: “We are looking forward to offering our customers this exclusive package. By combining state of the art wind measurements from iSpin with our ESP® platform, they will obtain the best performance measurement tool-kit available in the wind industry today.”

Jan Nikolaisen, Co-CEO of ROMO Wind, adds: “In this case, one plus one equals three. ESP® customers who install iSpin benefit from more than just the advantages of both products. The data they have in their ESP® application is much more comprehensive and enables analysis and insights not otherwise available. The combination of ESP® and iSpin creates full transparency of wind turbine performance.”
