BaxEnergy and Wien Energie: solar projects in Vienna
Vienna/Austria, January 2017: BaxEnergy and Wien Energie are working together to increase the use of renewable energy sources in the metropolitan area of Vienna, leading the way to energy independency and environmental sustainability
The implementation of Citizens’ Solar Power Plants project in Vienna is marking the beginning of a greener future for the city that shows a strong commitment to renewable energies. As part of this initiative Wien Energie, the city-owned energy provider, is working together with BaxEnergy to bring new technologies and services for buildings and infrastructures able to generate and distribute clean energy.
Solar energy and its use in the daily life is fundamental for ensuring climate protection and a higher quality of life for the people that leave and work in the city. Since 2012, Wien Energie is supporting the restructuring of Vienna’s energy system through the construction of photovoltaic power plants as well as wind farms and hydro power plants.
With the goal of making Vienna an environmentally friendly city, Wien Energie involves Viennese citizens to contribute actively to the solar development by investing in community-funded solar power plants. Thanks to this participation model, for the very first time implemented in an urban area, green energy is produced close to consumers and transmission losses are minimized.
BaxEnergy’s team of experts is delivering innovative solutions to Wien Energie aiming at monitoring power plants’ performances even more intelligently and efficiently. BaxEnergy R&D Center has developed dedicated software that enables Wien Energie’s personnel to integrate new power plants into the city grid in just a few hours. Once a power plant is connected, Wien Energie utilizes Energy Studio Pro® to collect information from the power plant for monitoring and analysis. Thanks to Energy Studio Pro® Wien Energie has direct access to the data exposed from the power plants from a dedicated monitoring and control room which provides – among other things – a real-time monitoring and the geographical information system.
The implementation of a sophisticated module to measure and evaluate solar inverters’ performance and status represents another key aspect of BaxEnergy project for Wien Energie. The inner benefit of such kind of module relies on the timely detection of underperforming inverters as well as on the instantaneous notification sent via email or SMS to control room operators to solve the problems. The newly implemented system performs comparative analysis among inverters that have known similar behavior. Thanks to this sophisticated software, Wien Energy is able to automatically detect underperforming inverters. The system has also a built-in intelligence that is capable to automatically send alerts to the maintenance technicians that can promptly intervene and restore the maximum level of energy production of damaged or degraded devices.
“Innovation is a key factor to the success of our customer’s projects”, says Stefano Scrivo, Project Manager at BaxEnergy, who moves on: “Wien Energie’s openness towards new technologies and solutions goes hand in hand with the pioneering attitude and spirit of BaxEnergy’s team. For us, it is very stimulating working with Wien Energie: bringing solar rooftop in urban area is a great step forward for renewable energy and a remarkable sign that green energy can become the only source of energy for a sustainable growth”.
Wien Energie is aiming at adding, in the very next future, new PV installations for a total of 131 power plants. These solar power plants are only a part of the portfolio of Wien Energie’s managed with Energy Studio Pro® that includes also 155 MW of wind power plants and growing. The interconnection of solar power plant with wind power plants operated by Wien Energy is in line with company’s ambitious target of increasing the share of renewable energies to 50% by 2030. As Vienna population grows, energy needs grow too and so the efforts of Wien Energie and BaxEnergy to guarantee energy independence and environmental sustainability in the city and the rest of the Country.
