BaxEnergy realizes integration of 25 gigawatts of Big Hydro power plants for ENEL in less than 3 months

Catania/Italy, October 2016: BaxEnergy benefits from the merger of Enel Green Power S.p.A. (EGP) with its parent company Enel S.p.A. and is awarded the data implementation of 25 gigawatts of Big Hydro power plants, managed in record time through its team of experts.

Last January Italy’s largest utility Enel has repurchased the renewable energy developer Enel Green Power, aiming at the Enel Group simplification through the full integration of EGP and its generation portfolio. The prominent deal increases the investment capacity of Enel Green Power, enabling it to grow its project pipeline, and allow closer integration of renewables and the distribution and retail businesses, creating commercial and financial synergies between the two companies.

Following the merger, Enel Green Power has added 25 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity, increasing EGP’s global clean power capacity to 34.5 gigawatts, while Enel Group overall counts on about 106.5 gigawatts of total installed capacity.

“Enel Green Power had been exceeding its capabilities as a standalone businesses and the timing is right for the repurchase, given the emergence of renewables from being subsidiary driven to economically competitive generation sources. The third phase of renewable development is of maturity and industrial growth”, says Dr. Francesco Starace, CEO of Enel.

Therefore Enel Green Power has found itself facing the challenge of integrating 25 gigawatts of Big Hydro data within the pre-existing worldwide monitoring room (WMR), and BaxEnergy has reached the goal in less than 3 months managing the so-called Big Hydro project through the implementation of its innovative solution Energy Studio Pro®.

The Big Hydro project reinforces the trust and collaboration between EGP and BaxEnergy, which now globally manages 718 Hydro power plants located in Italy, Iberia (Spain and Portugal) and Latin America, precisely in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Peru, providing central uniform visualization of the data and real-time operational efficiency through the Energy Studio Pro®.

The projects gathers data from hydro-electrical generators, dams and all related machinery of various manufacturers unifying them all in one place and collecting them for the entire lifetime, enabling Enel Green Power to benefit from extended historical analysis, in-depth KPIs analysis across all power plants and OEMs, and huge saving of work time related to manual data manipulation.

Furthermore, the new Geographical Information System (GIS), based on mobile technology and responsive U.I., allows Enel Green Power to gain valuable insights on their data and access real-time information in a geographical context, providing powerful management of a large number of geographically distributed power plants, quick navigation to detailed views and drill-down to individual assets and power plants.

Francesco Pennisi, Technical Director of the Strategic Business Unit, adds: “Our team embraced the Big Hydro project as an exciting challenge and its success proves the reliability and scalability of Energy Studio Pro®. As a result we collected enthusiastic feedbacks from Enel Green Power. BaxEnergy now handles more than 80 Gigawatts of total monitored power.”
