Some things are hard to explain in words but are recognized at a glance when faced. Quality is one of those things. Most dictionaries define “quality” as the degree of excellence of something and the yardstick against which similar elements are measured, in all aspects of life and business.

Quality is not something that exists in force of a pompous announcement. If quality exists, then it’s there and everyone can see it. Maybe words and articles might barely describe quality, but a standard certification process exists, all over the world, to define what companies should expect and offer in terms of quality. As emphatic as it may sound, in this world out of quality often just means out of business. Since 1947, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) develops a variety of industrial and commercial standards. In particular, the ISO 9000 family of standards provides guidance for quality management and sets a series of requirements for companies and organizations which want to constantly improve their services and products.  Adherence to any of the ISO standards requires a certification which is issued by a third-party company.

In 2012, BaxEnergy met the requirements of the ISO 9001:2008 standard and recently the company upgraded its internal Quality Management System (QMS) to the newest ISO 9001:2015. TÜV Italia, a premiere certification body, performed the auditing on the BaxEnergy’s QMS and it resulted compliant with the latest international standard.

What Is ISO 9001:2015, Exactly?

ISO 9001:2015 is the standard aimed at providing a formal, business-oriented definition of “quality”. Centered on seven core principles, the standard outlines the areas to focus on the way to improving the company’s performance. In no particular order, the list of foundational principles includes customer and improvement focus, unity of purpose throughout the company, competent people in the most appropriate role, an evidence-based decisioning model and care of relationships with partners and suppliers.

An organization willing to be certified needs to establish, implement and maintain a set of internal practices inspired to the standard’s principles. This document is the QMS. The certification body validates the QMS and ensures that its rules and practices match the actual internal organization and processes. The issued certificate is a written assurance that the products or services the company provides meet the inspiring principles of quality as ISO has formalized them.

Not a secondary point, an ISO 9001:2015 certification is not forever. It holds validity for three years and includes periodic checks once per year.

Why Should You Be ISO 9001:2015 Certified?

In some business scenarios, being ISO 9001:2015 certified is a strict requirement and weighs as a necessity on the company. More in general, though, the ISO 9001:2015 certification is a great opportunity for the company to check whether its products and services meet the expectations of the customers and how they can be further improved.

In other words, any ISO 9001:2015 certified company is a better company.
